Ascending and Descending Dragons (Original)
This pair of paintings depict an ascending (green) and descending (blue) dragon surrounded by colourful clouds in a field of gold leaf.
These paintings are inspired by the paired dragons that are often seen in Japanese temples. Traditionally they are associated with spring and autumn as dragons that spend winter in the protectives depths of rivers, lakes and oceans are said to rise into the skies in spring and return to the depths in autumn. These movements are meant to bring rain and fertility as well as representing the journey to gain knowledge and wisdom, before sharing this with others.
The paintings have been made with vibrant fluid acrylic and 23ct gold leaf and are framed in vintage black frames with their original gold mounts. The framed paintings measure 60 x 48cm and are either available individually or as a pair.
