I am Toby. I am a self taught artist who loves working with vibrant acrylics and traditional Japanese sumi ink.
My work explores themes including strength, beauty and change through the lense of a Japanese aesthetic. Inspired by late 19th Century Japanese art my work uses a variety of motifs including animals (mostly real, some mythical) and flowers (all real). They are designed to be pieces with a strong thematic identity that can also be enjoyed purely for being beautiful.
I often use vintage and second-hand frames in my work to give each painting its own unique character and personality. Often my work is designed to be presented in a specific frame, creating a beautiful and unique product.
